Members’ Grants (applications accepted year round)
The NWBW, Vi Phillips Guild offers monetary grants to its members! Grants of up to $1000 are available for participation in lectures, seminars, workshops, conferences, research projects, Guild events, etc. If you’ve been a NWBW Guild member for at least one you are eligible to apply, so don’t wait!
Judy Bligh Retreat Scholarship for New and Existing Members (deadline 12/18)
Thanks to a bequest from former guild member Judy Bligh, the NWBW, Vi Phillips Guild is pleased to offer four, $500 scholarships annually for new and existing members to attend our annual Retreat. This means you don’t yet have to be a member to apply and join us at our Biggest Event of the Year! As part of the award, non-members will have $25 applied to a one-year guild membership.
Judy Bligh Retreat Scholarship Guidelines and Application (online only)
Additional details:
- This is not a cash award: Recipients will receive up to $500 in the form of registration fee credits to be applied toward tuition and housing/meals for the Retreat. Non-members will have $25 of the award applied to an annual Guild membership. Materials fees are not included; each scholarship recipient is responsible for payment of any class materials fees.
- Individuals may receive this scholarship only once. Applicants who are not successful may apply again in future years.
- *Scholarship recipients must register for the Retreat separately.*
- Names of those who are selected for the Judy Bligh Retreat Scholarship will be given to the Retreat Committee so they know to expect these applicants, but recipients must register for Retreat themself. We recommend recipients do so promptly once registration opens as some classes fill up quickly. Registration dates vary from year to year, we will inform scholarship recipients of the dates at the time of the award.
- Scholarship recipients are responsible for all materials fees, which are to be paid per the Retreat registration requirements. Recipients are also responsible for any remaining Retreat costs above the $500. Scholarship recipients are asked to sign up for a volunteer slot when they register for Retreat. Exceptions will be considered.
- You must be 18+ to attend Retreat.
NWBW GRANTS FOR NBO CONFERENCE (deadline 12/18)
July 2025, the National Basketry Association is again holding its biennial conference in Tacoma. Conference info is available at:
https://nationalbasketry.org/nbo-news/tradition-and-innovation-in-basketry-12
Guild members who have not received grants in the past three years may apply. These grants would not cover the entire expense of attending and, as with other grants, do not include materials fees or transportation. The grants committee has a budget for NBO conferences and the grant amounts will be dependent on the number of applications.
Deadline for NWBW grants to attend the NBO Conference is December 18th 2024. Late applications will not be considered. Notification to applicants will come after approval at the January guild board meeting.
