George Arthur Hart grew up in the
Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. He
is a wildlife biologist by trade and
has devoted many years to the
gathering, harvesting, and
preparation of natural materials. He
has studied with Native American and
local artists. He excels in
traditional black ash Cherokee
baskets, and coiled baskets using
natural materials.
Other interests includes making bent
wood boxes, wood lathe bowls, and
working with baleen. George and his
wife, Jo Ann, run Wilderness
Basketry and offer a variety of
classes by local artists as well as
themselves. They gather and prepare
their own materials and choose to
work in natural materials.
